What is a maiden flight?
You may have heard the term before: a "baptism of fire." But what exactly is it, and what can you expect? We'll explain.
The meaning of a maiden flight
A maiden flight is your very first flight in an airplane or helicopter as a passenger. The name says it all: you’re “baptized” in the air. Just as a baptism by fire is your first introduction to something exciting, a maiden flight is your first introduction to flying.
What happens during a maiden flight?
During a maiden flight, you’ll board as a passenger with an experienced pilot. They’ll handle all the controls while you enjoy the view. You don’t have to do anything; you don’t have to pay attention to anything. Just look, feel, and enjoy.
A helicopter maiden flight typically lasts between 10 and 30 minutes, depending on the package you choose. During that time, you’ll fly along a set route over a city, coastline, nature reserve, or historic site.
The difference between a maiden flight and an introductory flight
People sometimes confuse these two terms, but there is an important difference.
On a sightseeing flight, you’re a passenger. You enjoy the flight but don’t touch the controls.
On an introductory flight, you take the controls yourself. After a brief ground briefing, you’ll fly the helicopter yourself, under the supervision of an instructor. That’s a step further and ideal for anyone who wants to find out if helicopter training is right for them.
Who is a helicopter ride for?
A maiden flight is for everyone. Literally.
For someone who has never flown before and finally wants to know what it feels like. For a child who loves helicopters. For a grandparent who has always wanted to fly. For a couple looking for something special. For a team wanting an unforgettable outing.
At Toran, we organize introductory flights for individuals, large groups, and companies. From 10 to 500 guests, at a location of your choice or from one of our regular departure points.
How much does a helicopter tour cost?
The price of a helicopter tour depends on the duration and the type of helicopter. At Toran, prices start with a 10-minute flight. The longer the flight, the more you see and the more immersive the experience.
A helicopter tour is also a popular gift. With our helicopter flight gift certificate, you give someone the freedom to choose their own date and location. Ideal for those who aren’t sure which route the recipient would choose.
