Private Pilot License

The Private Pilot License PPL(H) is the ideal first step for anyone who wants to start helicopter training in Belgium and learn to fly a helicopter. With this licence you may carry out private flights as a non-professional pilot, alone or with passengers within Europe. During the training you learn all the basic skills: from helicopter handling and navigation to emergency procedures and airmanship.

The PPL(H) training consists of a combination of theoretical lessons and practical flight training, completed with an official skill test. This licence also forms the perfect basis for anyone who later wants to progress to a Commercial Pilot License CPL(H) or other ratings.

At Toran we provide structured, safe and personal helicopter training that fully meets the EASA requirements.

The duration of this training depends entirely on the availability and motivation of the student, but takes on average one year.

Theorie

The theoretical training comprises 7 subjects and gives you all the knowledge you need to fly a helicopter independently later on.

You start with a motivating combination of theory and practice: during a first phase you fly about 4 hours, so that you immediately gain a general understanding of the aircraft, the procedures and the feeling of flying.

The classroom lessons are given in small groups of between 5 and 10 students. This ensures personal guidance, an efficient learning curve and a strong group atmosphere among the students.

Practical training

Instruction is given on a Guimbal Cabri G2 or a Robinson R44 by individual appointment with one of our experienced flight instructors. The minimum number of flight hours is 45 hours. An instructor is available 7 days a week! You may fly solo from the age of 16, provided you hold a Class 2 medical certificate. You can obtain your licence from the age of 17. It is best to combine the practical training with the theory lessons. This is possible from Kortrijk, Antwerp, Sint-Truiden or Knokke.
